Aasmund Nordstoga hails from Vinje in Telemark and titles himself equally as a singer-songwriter, a traditional singer and a farmer.
Nordstoga released his solo debut album Ein visefugg in 2009, and was nominated for a Norwegian Grammy (Spellemann) the same year. Last year saw the release of his second album, Friaren, containing songs by Norwegian master poets Alf Prøysen and Jens Gundersen.
The record received strong press reviews and Norwegian newspaper Aftenposten wrote: “Now Nordstoga has enhanced his expression even further, at the same time as he has taken a step closer to folk music. In the company of Abildsø Spelemannslag he combines the pulse of traditional music with the joyous singer-songwriter tradition in a way that is tailor-made for our time”.
- My mission is to entertain, and I want to do so without compromising on a musical level, Nordstoga has stated.
Aasmund Nordstoga was born into a family of musicians, and has won the Norwegian Competition of Folk Music and Dance (Landskappleiken) twice. He has also been involved in a number of film and theatre productions, among many the folk music version of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.
