Musician and singing teacher

Solbjørg Tveiten specialises in singing vocal material from Hardanger and Sogn, and has studied with some of the best folksingers in Norway. Olav Steffen Eide has served as her most important inspiration. She studied folk music at Viken Folk High School for Music and at Telemark University College. From 2000 to 2002 she studied at the School for Vocal Studies at the Ole Bull Academy (University of Bergen), and then began to study at the Norwegian Academy of Music. Tveiten has qualified for the elite Category A in the National Contest for Traditional Music. She has extensive performance experience from both Norway and abroad. She is a member of the group Tørvikbygd (formed in 2004), and together with Gro Marie Svidal she has written, directed and acted in the presentation Trudelutten på skattejakt, which was shown at Folkelarm in 2006. She has held Christmas concert tours with Synnøve S. Bjørset and Sigbjørn Apeland, and has collaborated with the official county musicians of Hordaland. Among her teaching engagements have been positions at the Ole Bull Academy, the Norwegian Academy of Music and Fana Folk High School. Solbjørg Tveiten takes an active role in organisations, and has been a member of the board of the Norwegian National Association for Traditional Music and Dance since 2003. She is currently studying for a Masters Degree in traditional art at Telemark University College, and works as a free-lance musician.
