Musician and dancer born in 1980. Grew up in Jølster, Sogn og Fjordane, resides in Oslo

Gro Marie Svidal is a versatile performer with experience in music, dance and theatre. During her studies at the Ole Bull Academy and the Norwegian Academy of Music she has delved deeply into the fiddle traditions of Sunnfjord, Sogn and Voss. She makes use of improvisation in her search for new musical idioms and forms of expression, and collaborates with musicians from a number of different genres. She has studied with Sigmund Eikås, Håkon Høgemo and Bjørn Kjellemyr, among others. Gro Marie Svidal has been involved in several theatre productions. She played the main role in Hundre år og like stri at SoFTeater in 2005, and has toured with Ulf-Arne Johannessen and Tom Karlsrud in Den Vesle Prinsen (“The Little Prince”), produced by Førde Folk Music Festival, the county administration in Sogn og Fjordane, and SoFTeater. She is also involved in a children’s production, Trudelutten på Skattejakt. She has qualified for the elite Category A in the National Contest for Traditional Music, and has had good results in various competitions. She has toured with Concerts Norway and the Cultural Rucksack, and her concerts both in Norway and abroad are extremely popular. Awards 1997: Gullharpa
