Rudi, Øystein

Fiddler Øystein Ovrum Rudi (b. 1969) is from Sør-Fron, an area in the Gudbrandsdal valley of central Norway. He has learned from many fiddlers, particularly in Gudbrandsdal but also from other parts of Norway. Since the early 1980’s he has played at countless weddings and dances. Øystein won the Landskappleik (Norwegian national fiddle competition) in 1997 and 1998, and has led the Sør-Fron Spelemannslag (fiddler's club) to many competition victories throughout the last two decades. He appears on two recordings that were winners of the Spelemannsprisen (the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards) in 1992 with the Sør-Fron Spelemannslag, and in 1995 with Nye Ringnesin. He currently plays traditional fiddle in the folk music group KVARTS. He has toured many times and has recently been active as a teacher at the Ole Bull Academy in Voss in Western Norway.
