Høye, Helene

Helene Høye, who lives at Nesodden but comes from Ringebu in Gudbrandsdal in eastern Norway, plays fiddle and traditional music from Gudbrandsdal. Her repertory contains both old traditional tunes (slåttar) and her own compositions, and ranges from lively rhythms to lyrical melodies inspired by nature. In 1993 she released the CD “Sprell levande” together with Mari Eggen. This production was nominated for a Spellemannprisen, the annual award of the Norwegian recording industry. In 1989, Helene was a member of the Sør-Fron Spelemannslag when they won a Spellemannprisen for their CD “Den lykkelege friar.” Helene’s playing is also represented on many collections of Norwegian traditional music released on CD.In 1994 she received a Saga Award, for which she received a violin made by Gunnar M. Røstad and lessons from the master fiddler Reidar Skjelkvåle. Helene concertizes frequently both as a solo performer and as a member of various ensembles. She also performs in other genres including jazz. She has toured for Norwegian State Concerts, performed on radio and TV, at festivals, in churches and as official entertainment for public events. Recently she has taught at the Ole Bull Academy in Voss.
