Frøholm, Britt Pernille
Britt Pernille Frøholm plays the fiddle and Hardanger fiddle, and works with folk music from western Norway, primarily Nordfjord. Among the teachers who have influenced her are her grandfather Mathias Frøholm, Arne M. Sølvberg and Finn Vabø. Other major sources of inspiration for her have been Ragnvald Lunde, Lars Hjellbakk, Leif Thomasgaard, Rasmus Brendefur and Elling Seljeset. Frøholm studied at the School for Instrumental Studies at the Ole Bull Academy from 1998 to 2000. The students at the Schools for Instrumental and Vocal Studies established the group Åtte Potte (1998-2001). Britt Pernille Frøholm also studied at the Norwegian Academy of Music, and in 2006 she received a Master’s Degree in traditional arts from Telemark University College, where she carried out research on the sound of the Hardanger fiddle and developed new music for the instrument. She used electronic sounds and other effects in this project, and the result was based partially on improvisations. Frøholm is a member of the group Vidvandre (2004), which held a showcase concert at Folkelarm in 2005. She is also a member of the group LUCKY LOOPS (2007), which plays mainly newly composed music and improvised music. She produced the children’s show Så rart å være flaggermus together with Siren Thorsheim, Huldersagn together with Merete Nordahl, and HEKS together with Ingri Midgard Fiksdal and Ida Wigdel. Britt Pernille Frøholm has qualified for the elite Category A on the Hardanger fiddle in the National Contest for Traditional Music, and has achieved a number of good results in competitions.
